When to activate
- You sell on multiple ecommerce platforms (Shopify, Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Walmart) and need consistent listing copy across all of them
- You're launching a new product and need to write the listing, the product description, the SEO title, the bullets, and the launch promo in one session
- Your existing product listings haven't been refreshed in 6+ months and you want a structured rewrite pass
- A competitor undercut your price or launched a similar product, and you want to reposition your listing in response
- You're scaling from one platform to multiple platforms and need each listing tuned to each platform's algorithm
When NOT to use
- You have a brand voice team or dedicated copywriter — they should own this, not an AI
- You're selling a regulated product (supplements, alcohol, CBD) where listing claims have legal exposure that requires human compliance review on every word
- You sell custom or made-to-order products where every listing is one-of-a-kind and brevity matters more than completeness
- Your SKU count is under 5 — at that volume, hand-writing is faster than tuning AI outputs
Instructions
Step 1: Set up product context once
Before drafting any listing, give Claude the product context. This is a one-time setup per product or per product family.
Say:
"I sell [product type] under the brand [your brand]. My ideal customer is [persona — age, life stage, pain or use case]. My brand voice is [premium / playful / technical / casual / warm]. My three biggest competitors on this product are [name them, with links if you have them]. The product's key benefits are [list 3-5, in order of importance]. The product's most common objections are [list 2-3]."
Claude will confirm the context back and flag anything that's missing.
Step 2: Pick the platforms
Tell Claude where this listing needs to live. Each platform has its own algorithm and best practices:
- Shopify: longer descriptions, story-style, SEO matters
- Amazon: bullets-driven, keyword-dense titles, A+ content for branded sellers
- Etsy: SEO tags are critical, story-driven descriptions, handmade/vintage authenticity signals
- eBay: title keyword loading, condition specifics, item specifics filled completely
- Walmart Marketplace: structured attributes, conservative claim language
Say: "Draft this listing for Shopify (long form), Amazon (bullets + 200 char title), and Etsy (SEO tags + description)."
Step 3: Draft and review
Claude produces a listing per platform. Each one will:
- Match your brand voice from the context document
- Reference the key benefits in the order you ranked them
- Address the objections you flagged
- Follow the platform's structural conventions
Read each one carefully. Common edit areas: claim language (Claude can be too aggressive on benefit claims, or too soft), specific product details (dimensions, materials, components Claude couldn't know), and brand-specific phrases you always use that Claude didn't include the first time.
Step 4: Tune for SEO
For Shopify and Etsy, ask Claude:
"Give me 15 keyword phrases a buyer might type to find this product. Rank them by likely buying intent, not just search volume."
You'll get a ranked list. Insert the top 5-7 into the listing copy where they read naturally. Don't keyword-stuff. The goal is one natural mention of the highest-intent phrase, plus organic mentions of 2-3 related phrases.
Step 5: Cross-platform consistency check
If you're listing on three platforms, ask Claude:
"Compare the three drafts. Flag any inconsistencies in product specs, pricing implications, or claims that could cause a buyer who finds you on multiple platforms to feel like they're seeing different products."
This catches the silly errors — different size descriptions, different feature counts, different "as seen in" claims that only got added on one platform.
Step 6: Refresh on a cadence
Re-run the workflow every 6 months on your top 20 SKUs. Algorithms change, competitor positioning shifts, and listings that were tight 9 months ago feel dated today. Pin this as a quarterly review.
Example
You sell a $42 cast-iron skillet under your brand "Hearth & Anvil," targeting home cooks aged 30-55 who care about heirloom-quality cookware. You're listing on Shopify and Amazon. The skillet is hand-poured in Pennsylvania, ships with a beeswax conditioning kit, and competes against a similar Lodge product at $32.
You give Claude the context. Brand voice: warm, slightly literary, references craft and provenance. Key benefits: heirloom durability, conditioning kit included, pre-seasoned, made in Pennsylvania. Objections: "why pay more than Lodge?" and "is it actually different from a regular skillet?"
Claude produces:
Shopify listing (340 words): Opens with a story about the foundry, leads into the product specs, addresses the Lodge comparison directly ("Built for the next generation, not the next season"), closes with the conditioning kit as the reason to buy this specific skillet rather than a $32 one.
Amazon title (197 characters): "Hearth & Anvil 10-Inch Cast Iron Skillet — Hand-Poured in Pennsylvania, Pre-Seasoned, Heirloom-Grade Cookware with Beeswax Conditioning Kit Included — Lifetime Use Cast-Iron Pan"
Amazon bullets (5 of them, each 180-200 characters):

You spend 12 minutes reviewing. You catch that Claude wrote "American made" — you wanted "Made in Pennsylvania" everywhere because it's more specific. You ask for a quick swap, get the corrected drafts in 30 seconds, and paste both listings into Shopify and Amazon Seller Central. Total time from start to live listings: 45 minutes for a listing pair that would have taken 3 hours to write from scratch.
