thumbnail-ideator
When to activate
After script optimization. Generates 3 distinct thumbnail concepts with hook analysis, text overlay guidance, and design rationale.
When NOT to use
- Before script is finalized (thumbnail hooks must align with script messaging).
- Without competitor thumbnail analysis (use competitor-analyzer first).
- On low-viability topics (score <40).
Instructions
- Input: Video title, script hook, primary keywords, target audience, competitor thumbnails.
- Analyze competitor thumbnails: Color palette, text style, emotion, face presence, contrast.
- Generate 3 distinct concepts:
- Concept A: High contrast, bold text, strong emotion (clickable)
- Concept B: Data-driven, chart/number, professional tone (authority)
- Concept C: Reaction-based, face + expression, surprise element
- For each concept:
- Primary color palette (2–3 colors)
- Text overlay (5 words max, 24–32pt font)
- Central element (image, icon, face, chart)
- Rationale (why this hooks the audience)
- Design guidance:
- High contrast between text and background (readability on mobile)
- No more than 2 fonts
- Central focal point (90% of thumbnail real estate)
- Avoid busy layouts or too many elements
- Output: 3 thumbnail concepts with color codes, text specifications, and A/B test recommendation.
Example
Input:
- Video title: "This AI Edits Videos for You (I Was Wrong)"
- Hook: "I tested all major AI editors. Here's which one actually works."
- Keywords: AI editing, automation, AI tools
- Audience: Content creators, 25–45 yo
Output:
Concept A — Shock + Surprise
- Colors: Bright red (#FF4444) + white + black
- Central element: Person face with shocked expression
- Text: "AI DOES IT FOR YOU" (white, bold, top-right)
- Secondary text: "20 HRS SAVED" (red, small, bottom-left)
- Rationale: High emotional engagement; face presence drives 30% higher CTR; red signals urgency
Concept B — Data + Authority
- Colors: Dark blue (#1A1A2E) + gold (#FFD700) + white
- Central element: Bar chart showing time saved across 3 tools
- Text: "AI EDITING RANKED" (white, top-center)
- Secondary text: "TESTED 7 TOOLS" (gold, bottom-right)
- Rationale: Authority-driven; appeals to analytical audience; chart implies credibility
Concept C — Reaction + Curiosity
- Colors: Vibrant cyan (#00D9FF) + purple (#6A0DAD) + white
- Central element: Split screen: human editing vs AI editing side-by-side
- Text: "I WAS WRONG" (white outline, large, center)
- Secondary text: "ABOUT AI EDITORS" (cyan, small, bottom)
- Rationale: Curiosity hook; admission disarms skepticism; split-screen shows contrast
A/B Test Recommendation: Start with Concept A (highest short-term CTR). Test B and C after 500 views.
Output: 3 thumbnail concepts with color codes (#hex), font specs, central elements, and A/B strategy.
