uygnoey Voice mode as a thinking partner
Some problems you can't type your way through. Voice mode is for practicing for an important pitch meeting, deciding between multiple offers, reviewing your own process out loud, or brainstorming new ideas.
Until this update, voice mode ran only on Claude Haiku, chosen for speed. It now runs on Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, and Claude Haiku — Opus and Sonnet are models designed for hard problem-solving — and it can reach connected tools like Gmail and Slack and hold the conversation in more languages.
Instructions
1. Pick the model for the problem, not the format
Opus and Sonnet are the ones designed for hard problem-solving; Haiku is the fast one. Choose from the model picker, and switch mid-conversation if the problem turns out to be harder or lighter than you expected.
Voice mode uses the fastest version of whichever model you've selected, so the conversation still runs smoothly. It defaults to the last model you used in text chat, which means you can move between voice and text without starting over — think out loud, then open the same thread and keep going in text.
2. Ask for the work, not the summary
The useful shape is not "tell me about X." It is handing Claude your own reasoning and asking it to be adversarial with it. Talk through the client pitch and ask Claude to find the gaps in your logic; practice the conversation and ask for feedback on how you're communicating. See examples/voice-session-prompts.md.
3. Connect the tools before the session, so talking can turn into doing
Connect tools under Settings > Connectors. With permission, Claude can act on what you just talked about:
- Push a meeting on your Google Calendar by 30 minutes.
- Turn a conversation about a client pitch into a one-pager in Canva.
- Summarize received emails and draft responses to critical ones.
Connect them first — a session that ends in a decision is more useful when the decision can be executed before you put the phone down.
4. Set the language deliberately
Eleven languages are supported. Automatic detection is not available, so select the language manually or ask for it out loud at the start of the conversation. Full list in references/models-tools-languages.md.
5. Know what your plan gives you
The update is in beta for all chat users on mobile, desktop, and web, and works best from your phone.
- Free plan — Claude Haiku, one connected tool, and all available languages.
- Paid plans — expanded models and all your connected tools.
Voice conversations count toward your regular usage limits, so a long spoken session draws from the same budget as text.

Rehearsal. Practice for an important conversation and ask for feedback on how you're communicating.
Pressure-testing. Talk through a client pitch and ask Claude to find the gaps in your logic.
Brainstorming with a check. Brainstorm ideas for your product roadmap and ask Claude to validate them with competitive research.
Post-mortem on a result. Evaluate hypotheses for why your last video went viral.
Each of these ends better with a connected tool attached: the roadmap brainstorm becomes a one-pager, the rehearsal ends with the follow-up meeting moved, the pitch review ends with the critical emails drafted.
