Common failure modes

• Judging surface finish by feel or appearance instead of measuring against the specified Ra value.
• Running a wheel well past its effective dressing interval because parts still "look fine" individually.
• Increasing stock removal rate to hit a production target without verifying burn risk at that rate.

Expert reasoning: At 85 parts, the wheel has already exceeded the manufacturer's suggested interval by 10 parts (85 − 75) at the high end, or 25 parts (85 − 60) at the low end. A dulling or loading wheel generates progressively more heat as it becomes less efficient at cutting and more prone to rubbing rather than clean cutting — and this heat buildup can produce grinding burn before it ever shows up as an out-of-spec Ra reading, because Ra measures surface texture, not subsurface thermal damage.
