Practices
Keep the window short and relevant.
- Start a new session per topic. Stale tokens degrade accuracy, speed and cost.
- Load the relevant sections of files and docs, not whole dumps.
- Never demand an immediate final answer on a hard problem.
Ground with authoritative text.
- Before using any external API or library, paste its current official docs into context. On MenuGen, Claude hallucinated about 1000 lines of code that appeared to be deprecated Clerk APIs, and the fix was copy-pasting the real docs back and forth until it came unstuck (karpathy.bearblog.dev/vibe-coding-menugen, 27 Apr 2025).
- Paste errors verbatim. The exact string is the signal; your summary of it is not.
- Karpathy's docs-for-LLMs point: most content is still written for humans instead of LLMs (X status/1899876370492383450, 12 Mar 2025). Keep your own project's docs as a single
your_project.md sized for one context window.
- Give agents a CLI tool, a backend configurable by curl, and Markdown docs, instead of pages that tell a developer to visit, look, or click (vibe-coding-menugen).
