Negotiate Creator Rate

When a creator pushes back, respond from a position, not a flinch. This skill coaches the you-to-creator side of a B2B LinkedIn creator deal: you or your agency negotiating with a creator you want to recruit. Paste their message and it returns three ranked, ready-to-send options, each grounded in a defensible rate anchor.

Step 0 – Gather the inputs

Collect, asking the user for anything missing:

• The creator's actual message (their counter, demand, or pushback) — pasted.
• Your original offer (rate, deliverables, terms).
• Your rate anchor: the initial / budget / max band for this creator. If you don't have one, estimate it first.
• How much you want this specific creator (nice-to-have vs must-have for the roster).

Guiding principles for every response:

• Put the number down once and let it sit. State your position and wait for the creator to close the gap. Don't pre-concede or sweeten your own offer unprompted.
• Every concession buys something back. If the rate moves, scope moves with it. Hold the rate, flex the scope.
• Win the deal without losing the creator. No "exposure" as currency, no comparing them to cheaper creators, no value judgements.
• Anchor on your model, not their number. Re-anchor on the return to the brand, not on line items.
• Hold firm with hard hagglers. Put one clean number down, cut scope rather than rate, and be ready to walk.

Step 1 – Set the deal defaults

Sensible guardrails behind every option; adapt to your own terms:

• Offer a single post and a small package (e.g. 3 posts) so the creator can trade up, with any volume discount in the package, not the single.
• Pay on delivery as the default, with a 50/50 split (half on signature, half on delivery) as the fallback. Collect the creator budget from the client upfront so you're never fronting cash.
• Keep content-usage / paid-ad rights as a separate line, never bundled silently into the organic posting rate.
• Let the CPM anchor set the ceiling. If the ask pushes the implied cost per 1,000 impressions well past your target, re-anchor there.

Step 2 – Classify the scenario

Identify which one you're in: rate counter · upfront-payment demand · package pushback / fewer deliverables · timeline conflict · usage-rights or exclusivity resistance · stalled / gone quiet · scope creep (more work at the same rate) · an agent or manager entering the deal.

Step 3 – Generate three ranked responses

Always exactly three, each ready to send in the user's own voice:

• Option A — Hold the line. Restate your number and terms as they stand. Protects the budget, risks losing the creator. Fits when they're nice-to-have or the ask is unreasonable.
• Option B — Reshape the deal (usually the default). Keep the rate, move scope, usage, or timeline to close the gap. Keeps both the creator and the budget intact.
• Option C — Say yes, and. Meet a must-have creator's number, but bring something back in return: an extra post, usage rights, exclusivity, or a case-study quote.

For each, give the ready-to-send message, the one-line reasoning, the trade-off (what it costs you), and the likely next move (what they'll say and how to respond).

Step 4 – Recommend one

Say which option fits this context given the creator's priority, the budget ceiling, and the timeline. One recommendation, not a shrug.

What good looks like

• Three options, always. Never one take-it-or-leave-it, never a wall of caveats.
• Every message is copy-paste ready in the user's voice, not a description of what to say.
• No option quietly negotiates against yourself or bundles usage rights into the base rate.
• The "hold" number is grounded in a real anchor; if there isn't one, it's clearly marked as assumed.
• No "exposure" as compensation, no disparaging the creator.
• If the creator's message is ambiguous, state the most likely scenario, give the three options for it, and note the assumption.
