A sweep is only as honest as its coverage report. An empty result means nothing until the venues are proven live.

Fix the window and list the venues before searching. Name the window in days, then list every venue you intend to read: open discussion communities, technical forums, video, job postings, filings and preprints, the trade press, short-form social feeds, plain web search. The list is the plan. A venue never listed cannot turn up missing later.
Keep the topic string clean. The topic is a routing key, not a description: plain words, no brackets, no slashes, no "versus" unless a comparison is wanted. Disambiguation belongs in the query terms. A topic carrying a parenthetical splits silently into two searches, one of them a fragment, and half the budget goes into the fragment. Rank by engagement, then read against the ranking. Engagement measures how loud a view was, not how common. Note the dissent that got no traction; it is often the objection a buyer raises on the call.

What good looks like
A good sweep lets the reader see its edges. It says "eleven communities read, video empty, job postings never reached because the window was too short", then states what the missing venue would have changed. A bad one reads confident and cites eight items, and nothing reveals whether it swept eleven venues or two.
The most expensive mistake is reading a quiet sweep as a quiet market. A venue that returned zero on a malformed query looks identical to a venue where nobody is talking, and the second reading walks a rep into a call believing an account is dormant. Treat any zero as a query fault until a bare one-word search proves otherwise. Filters and operators are the usual culprit and they fail silently.
Next most expensive: repeating a tool's own coverage complaint as fact. A venue reported unavailable is a statement about that route, not about the venue. If another route to it exists, the honest word is "not run", and not running it needs a reason.
Good output survives the handoff. Someone who was not on the sweep can act on it, because every claim carries a venue, a date and a link, and every gap is named rather than smoothed over.
